How to stop people pleasing
... don't try to be liked and start being real
Hey man
Quick one today…
People pleasing is one of the most destructive patterns of living a man can engage in.
It’s where you value other people’s opinion of you over your own opinion of yourself.
If you're a people pleaser, here are 5 things you need to know...
You can't control anyone else's thoughts/feelings and behaviours. You can only control your own actions and the boundaries you set. Let go of your need for control.
If you don't like someone's behaviour, you have only three options: accept it, communicate that you don't like it, or walk away from it.
Your fear of confrontation is preventing you from connecting with people. To avoid conflict is to fear authentic connection.
Your worth has nothing to do with other people liking you. You are worthy regardless.
A complete lack of conflict in your life is a sign that you aren't living true to yourself and communicating authentically. Value being respected … not liked.
And here are three books that helped me break free from this...
- The Disease To Please by Harriet B. Braiker
- No More Mr Nice Guy by Robert Glover
- The Courage To Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi & Fumitake Koga
Don't try to please everyone.
Strive to be REAL with everyone you meet.
When you do this … you invite YOUR people (the people who truly love you for the man you are) to come into your life.
Hope that helps,
Big love
Oliver
