silencing the nasty voice in your head
... does it have a point?
Hey man
Last week I had a bad day.
Here’s something I don’t like to admit.
My mind is…
“a little bit wonky”
(famous British actor Tom Hardy described his mind in this way and I stole it)
Sometimes I can be a neurotic son of a bitch.
Sorry, mom.
Things are going well … and then BAM.
My mind finds a reason to believe I’m broken, nothing I ever do will be good enough and I should just lie in bed and hide from the world.
That voice sometimes wins.
I know it’s a little strange that a guy who coaches men is openly admitting to being half a nutcase…
But the truth is, I used to be a hell of a lot worse.
That nasty voice in my head used to run my life completely.
Every choice I ever made was made to try to get rid of that voice.
It didn’t work.
The truth I learned is that voice will probably NEVER go away.
Trying to get rid of it is an exercise in futility.
Hopeless.
But does that mean that you’re doomed to live with that pissy little devil in your skull for the rest of your life?
No.
Because I found a hack that changed the game for me.
Fighting with the nasty voice is like trying to stop a train with another train.
The ensuing collision creates nothing but chaos and destruction inside your skull.
I’m sure you know how that feels.
Instead of fighting with it, I suggest that you do the unthinkable…
Turn towards that voice with love and curiosity.
Take some deep breaths…
Imagine that nasty voice as a person separate from yourself but living in your head.
And even though it might not seem like it … he’s just trying to protect you.
Once you can picture that nasty voice as a separate person.
Ask it these questions:
“What do you want for me?”
“What are you trying to protect me from?”
“What are you afraid would happen to me if you weren’t here?”
And listen for the answer.
You’ll realise the same thing I did.
This voice is only nasty because it’s trying to get your attention.
When you give it the attention it craves, it slowly morphs from an angry little critic into a trusted advisor.
And this advisor makes achieving your goals 1000% easier.
No longer are you a train with rusty wheels anymore fighting with yourself…
You’re like a super slick Japanese bullet train speeding towards your goals with complete alignment and efficiency.
(I seem to love trains in this email apparently).
You might feel alone in your neurotic, wonky, sometimes messed-up mind.
But, mate. You’re not.
And does your wonky mind mean you’ll never be free and live a life you enjoy?
Absolutely 1000% fucking no way.
I used to be in hell. A living hell of fire and brimstone.
Now my life is … well, not a hell haha.
Quite the opposite.
And you can turn it around just like I did.
If you’re interested in going deeper…
Helping you turn the voice in your head from a nasty critic into a loving advisor is just one of the things I will help you do in my 12-week coaching programme.
It’s aimed at men who want to stop procrastinating constantly, build their confidence/self-esteem socially … and if you’re an aspiring solo entrepreneur or writer — you’ll actually grow your business instead of just dreaming about it.
If you’re ready, then click this link which will bring you to my calendar.
Book a time that suits you and answer the follow-up questions.
We’ll meet on the call and discuss the gameplan for your next 90 days (your life can look very different in just 90 days when you fully commit).
Anyway, as always…
Big love bro,
Oliver "Discount Tom Hardy” Cowlishaw
